Gifts

Wednesday, December 29, 2010

When I stared this blog I set a goal of at least one blog per week ... after two weeks I dropped the ball ... I got sick and then came the holidays so there went my blog to the back burner.  For the new year I will reset my goal with that said here goes my blog for this week.

So when writing out the list of names I needed gifts for I started thinking of the gifts they have giving me.  I know that sounds selfish but it was a lot deeper then you are thinking.  This type of gift you can't wrap and put under the tree. These gifts that each of my family and friends have that make them special and unique and have in turn made my life special and unique.  For example my friend Kristina is the most independent and adventurous person I know (maybe not in all of the world but in my world) through the years she has shown me that although scary at times being independent comes great self empowerment and her willingness to take risks has giver her and me some great memories. That is just one example ... I could write about each of my family and friend's gifts but that would take some time to read and although riveting I rather you do something better.

Take out the old fashion pen and paper and make your own list and if you are ever so inclined to do so send each of your family and friends a thank you letter for their special gift they have given to you or shared with you.

How great would that be to start the new year.

Happy New Year ... You have the ability to make it a great 2011

"Your life story would not make a good book. Don't even try."
Fran Lebiwitz

And I am not going to try ... This week I have been very inspired by movies ... Both movies caught me by surprise.  The first being a documentary and for all of you who are reading this I am not one to sit down to watch a documentary on any topic.  But I have been a little under the weather this week and came across it as I was flipping the channels still in bed one late morning.  "Public Speaking" came up on the info ... I said to myself I like public speaking lets check it out ... and I am glad I did.  It's basically Fran Lebowitz and Martin Scorsese (who's mostly off camera) sitting at a booth in Manhattan's Waverly Inn and discussing a variety of topics.  Didn't know much about Lebowitz before watching this documentary ... It made me happy to know there are some great talkers in this world.

"When I was a child it was called talking back now its called public speaking but really its the same thing"
Fran Lebowitz

Thanks to my parents for not stifling my inner voice or my outer voice

If you are unsure if the documentary is for you check out the trailer

The second movie I happened upon was Julie and Julia in the nail shop of all places.  Most people are familiar with this movie and with Julia Child.  Yes this would be one of those feel good movies but it also got me to thinking ... Find that one thing you love and do ... Simple or cliche it may be it has made me happy.  I started making Jewelry something I have always loved to do but now I want to see if I can make something out of it ... if nothing it makes me happy every day so far.
